Capsule wardrobe has made my life a lot easier. It's not a lie to say that it means owning less but having more, more confidence, freedom, time and money.

There are a few things I have experienced and wished I knew about it earlier. FYI, I am not one of the fashion bloggers or the capsule wardrobe gurus but I hope you can learn some tips on how I start my minimal closet.

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that do not go out of fashion, such as skirts, trousers, and coats, which can then be augmented with seasonal pieces (Susie Faux, 1970s).

1. Know Your Style And Personality.

I have to admit it, it's a real struggle. It’s not easy to capsule your wardrobe if you haven’t figured out your style yet. But remember it’s very normal even if you do not know about it. For me, it’s a long process over the years. I reflect a lot about my pattern of accumulating clothes and my preferences over some items. There are items I tend to wear a lot because I feel very true to myself. I notice how I endlessly scroll to save images of clothes on Instagram, Pinterest or how I tend to prefer a style of a particular YouTuber. Analyze it and then visualize how you will look like or who you want to become. And if you are stuck, you may even seek help from online style consultant websites from fashion brands. My current goal is to have a refined and harmonious balance between minimalism and elegance.

2. Take Your Lifestyle Into Consideration.

The ideal wardrobe should reflect not only your creativity and vision but also your lifestyle. I try to consider my daily lifestyle when organizing my closet. Even if I know high heels can elongate my look and compliment my style, since I’ve been walking a lot lately I do not have the need to buy one or even own one. I am no longer keeping up with the Joneses as I do not want to compare with others. Trends are not a sustainable thing. Consider the purpose, your daily job, working style and even the weather where you are living, therefore you can make wise decisions whether to purchase or to get rid of items.

3. Know About Colour Coordination

In order to create a functional capsule wardrobe and make it interchangeable, I have my own preferences of a colour palette for my clothes. I will pick my own wardrobe based on a cohesive colour palette of complementary colours. The base colour will account for 60 per cent of my wardrobe, which is normally black, white and navy and then 40 per cent will be accent colour. I also pick the colour coordination that compliments my skin tone. But it’s up to you, the final goal is still about who you are and how you feel with your own style.

4. Know Your Body Type

Everybody and every body are all different. It’s important to be self-aware. Knowing about my body type has solved a lot of my shopping nightmares. Dress for your shape and shine your best. Clothes should be something to compliment your look and show your best assets. Wear what makes you feel confident about yourself because confidence will never be something that goes out of style.

I hope you can learn great tips from my experience. Be patient and it’s okay to experiment once in a while. Capsule wardrobe should be something you enjoy. Don’t be too hard on yourself and feel pressured about it.

I will see you in my next post!
